Mt Crichton/Creighton Loop Track (2.5 hours, 6.4km) : As you drive out towards Glenorchy, the Mt Crichton track (and car park) can be found on the left hand side of the road just after the “12 Mile Delta” carpark. This is a beautiful loop track up the side of Mount Crichton through a native forest valley with several bridge crossings over twelve mile creek. Expect to find a wonderful variety of flora in the beech forest, evidence of old gold mining activity, historic mining Sam Summers huts, river gorges, and waterfalls.
Tip: Look out for the short side track below Sam Summers Hut which leads to an impressive rock fissure (tunnel) once used as a tail race, the adventurous amongst you can squeeze through the gap and emerge to find a private oasis on the other side.
